    • Clarence and Thorsa Raines had no children.

"Clarence and I have moved around some. We farmed in Ark. for a few years, moved to Tahlequah, Okla. and farmed a couple of years, and moved back to Ark. Then sold our farm and came to Mo. and spent one summer. Then the depression came, the work shut down and we went back to Ark., rented a farm and was there 6 years. In Aug. of 1936 we sold out and went to Calif. and worked in the fruit. The wages at that time was below what they are today. Clarence worked cutting grapes for 30 cents per hour, I worked in the packing house, packing grapes for 35 cents per hr., but living expenses were much cheaper then, too. Clarence's parents insisted that we go back to Ark. to be near them since they were getting older. We did and were there 3 years. I contacted asthma and we went to Chandler, Ariz. for my health in 1945 and was there 4 years. Clarence got homesick for a stock farm in the Ozarks so we came to Mo. near Greenfield [in 1949], bought a stock farm and was there 23 years. Clarence had a stroke in the spring of '72. We sold out there and bought property here in Monett, Mo. and have been here 10 years this spring [1983]." (Written by Thora Smith Raines) Thora moved to Green Forest, Arkansas in 1986 to be near her nephew Duane Coxsey, where she remained until her death.
