- Charlene May Jenkins (nee Haring)
Charlene May Jenkins (nee Haring), passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, in Barberton, Ohio.
She was born to Ophir and Mildred Haring on July 28, 1941 in Barberton, Ohio.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Richard Jenkins; her son, Jeffrey (Nancy) Jenkins; her daughter, Traci Purk; her grandson, Tyler Purk; her granddaughter, Ashleigh Darkhorse; her great-grandson, Hunter Darkhorse; her brother, Larry (Lois) Haring and sister-in-law, Ethel Haring.
Her parents and her brothers, Raymond and Kenneth preceded her in death.
Charlene and Richard began their love story when she was 16 years old. They found their paths had previously crossed when it was discovered that Rich and his friends had once thrown tomatoes at Char and her date as they walked around Lake Anna. We are so grateful that she found it funny and continued to date him. They married on November 19, 1960, and spent the next 62 years enjoying life’s adventures together, golfing, traveling, boating, and throwing fabulous parties.
Charlene was a proud member of the Barberton High School, Class of 1959. She graduated from the University of Akron in 1974 and taught in the Norton City Schools for 27 years. Char met many of her dearest friends through teaching and loved telling stories of her students.
A Celebration of Charlene’s Life will be held at the Hungarian Benefit Society, 451 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203 on Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 2 to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request you honor Charlene with a donation to the American Heart Association or the First Tee of Greater Akron.
