Notes |
- Ludwig Höring landed at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 30, 1754 on the ship Neptune which had departed from Rotterdam. He took the naturalization sacrament in Douglass Twp., Montgomery Co. (then Philadelphia Co.), Penn. on September 23, 1760. He was a deacon there in New Hanover Lutheran Church, where his first eight children were baptized. He sold his land there in June, 1774 and moved to land he purchased on Bohandy (Pine) Creek in present West Brunswick Twp., Schuylkill Co. (then Berks Co.), Pennsylvania.
"He was a cordwainer, farmer, miller, sawyer and last an innkeeper. His inn 'Brunswick Tavern,' a large stone house, still stands on the east side of Highway 61 in upper Deer Lake village in Schuylkill County. In the Revolutionary War, he served as a continental line private (Pa. Arch, 5th Series, v. 4, p. 259). In the Revolutionary War, Ludwig Herring, 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Company, 3rd Battalion, Berks County Militia, in August, 1776 was ordered to South Amboy in Jersey, a 135 mile march from Wormelsdorf in Berks County, for two months. (Pa. Arch., 5th Series, v. 5, p. 190)" 1 His name is spelled "Höring" on his tombstone.
There was an Elisabeth Hering who was sponsor at the baptism on Elisabeth Hering born October 17, 1757. Schuylkill Co., Pennsylvania was created from Berks Co in 1811.
